Hello.
Thank you for your interest in Laurel Way Playgroup. We are registered with OFSTED to take children from 2-5 but this is dependent on staff ratios therefore places for under 3's are discretionary. We also have been awarded by the Centre for Research in Early Childhood, Quality Assurance and our last Ofsted Inspection was Outstanding. Our curriculum policy is based on curriculum guidance for the Foundation Stage as set out by the DfEE. The Foundation Stage curriculum is organised into 6 areas of learning to include: Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Communication, Language & Literacy, Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy, Knowledge & Understanding of the World, Physical Development and Creative Development. We observe and assess each child to enable us to plan our curriculum so that all children meet the early learning goals. We offer flexible scheduling and we participate in the free nursery education scheme.
Therefore, we as a group believe that “through
good quality play children learn to listen, concentrate, persist, create, discriminate,
cooperate and to deal with the world of materials, situations and people”.
These are all attributes necessary for learning both now and later. It
has been substantiated, “that too early an approach to formal learning
disadvantages many children and turns them off schooling to such an extent
that they may becomes failures and drop outs in adolescence.”
It is well to remember that a happy and secure childhood is the most valuable
thing that we can give our children. It will determine to a large extent
the outcome of their adult lives.
I hope that by visiting our website
you will have a clearer idea of the type of education that we offer at
Laurel Way Playgroup.
We are very proud that we have received an outstanding Ofsted report and have also been chosen at random for an Ofsted Survery. Both links are accessible from this site.
We are pleased to welcome prospective parents and children and to show
you our happy school.
